Really and Truly the Father, Volume 6, Bastardy Affidavits from County of Ontario (1854-1921)

,

$32.00

The passage of a law in 1837 imposing liability on the fathers of bastard children resulted in numerous affidavits being filed. These affidavits or oaths were sworn in the presence of a Justice of the Peace by the young women, and were considered the first step in a legal case against the father. This collection of affidavits covers the entire Ontario County, beginning in 1854, when it was officially removed from the United County of York, Ontario and Peel and considered to be on it’s own, and carries on with oaths up until 1921. 292 pages.
