This series covers the proceedings of the Court of Oyer and Terminer & General Gaol Delivery for the entire Province of Upper Canada, including verdicts, jury lists & sureties; each volume also contains extensive appendices and end notes.
Volume 1 contains some notable trials, including two in the Home District in January of 1800, one against John Small for the murder of John White in a famous duel, and a second against Humphrey Sullivan for forgery. The latter resulted in the first hanging in the Town of York. In another Home District trial that took place in December of 1796, Charles McKeown was accused of the murder of the Mississauga chief Wabakinine, but was discharged when the Grand Jury found a “no bill”. 404 pages.
